I always carry a knife
It's against the law
but I do it for purposes like this:
A young man came up to me
with a pigeon in deep distress
A fishing-line had caught its feet
For almost an hour
he held the bird
while I cut the animal free from its bounds
I´m not saying that I saved the world
I´m not even saying that pigeons should live
but I spent an hour or so
to do what I knew I had to do
The pigeon didn´t thank me
when I let him loose
but I walked home a happier man
carrying my knife in my pocket
and completely ignoring any stupid man-made law
